What You Should Know About Google’s March 2024 Algorithm Update

March 12, 2024 Blog, Thoughts

šŸ“¹ Watch this video to learn about Googleā€™s March 2024 Algorithm update. Watch until the end of the video for chatGPT’s hilarious fictional tale about my SEO skills. It’s entertaining. šŸ¤£

What Happened? ā“
Google updated their core algorithm to fight spam and make sure that useful content can rank on their search engine results page better.

The point: šŸ’”
Keeping spam out of their search engine.

How they are doing it:
1ļøāƒ£ Scaled content:
Fighting back against A.I content and programmatic SEO. Zoominfo’s company and personal pages are a good example of pages built using programmatic SEO but donā€™t offer a ton of value other than annoying the people and companies who they have pages built for. The personal pages also create a lot of work for Zoominfoā€™s internal customer service teams. This is because people find them then email asking for their page to get taken down.

2ļøāƒ£ Site Reputation
Some sites sell their their domain authority and ability to rank. The Wall Street Journalā€™s Buyside section is an example. It uses their DomainĀ Authority to rank for keywords like ā€œshop dealā€ and ā€œteeth whiteningā€ and sell Amazon products using affiliate links. Itā€™s a good way to make additional revenue but Google is not having it!

3ļøāƒ£ Expired domain abuse
People buy expired domains and use them to quickly rank for keywords. This is because the domains have domain authority and they donā€™t have to start from scratch with a new domain that has never been used. Google ainā€™t having it which is sort of unfair.

How does this affect you? šŸŽ“
There may be ranking fluctuations in your brand or clients industry. When organic search rankings on Google decreases usually website traffic, leads and revenue drop as well.

Take Strategic Inventory: āœ…
Take stock on if you have implemented any of the things they are targeting.

Check Rankings: āœ…
– Check your rankings to see if you have any decreases.
– Check Google Search Console for any big changes in page indexing and performance
– Check for manual action penalty

Create a Recovery Plan šŸ“œ
If youā€™ve been hit youā€™ll need a recovery plan that will help undo some of the things that triggered your decline. DM, text, email or comment if you need help.

Remember Growth is Intentional. I’m rooting for you. šŸ‘
